1592 First chotolicism brought to Korea by a chaplain of  Japanese

         military during the Japanese invasion till 1598.but it was really

         nominal and there has lots of limits for Korean to understand at the

         time, especially during the war.

 

1784 Yi,Byok house owner of Myungryebang,later on he donated his                 own house, and we were able to build Myeongdong Cathedral in                 1898, asked Yi,Seung Hoon accompanying his father when his                   father travelled to China as his winter session envoy in 1783.  

          Brother Yi,Seung Hoon brought many religious articles and

          especially " The real Doctrine of God" written by Italian Matteo

          Ricci.

         In addition, he baptized by Fr.Louis De Grammont who belongs to 

         French Ex-Jesuit Missionary.

       Yi,Byuk, in the meantime established a Catholic Faith Community

         and started worship to God at his House. Yi,Byuk also has baptized

         Gwon,Cheol Shin and Gwon,Il Shin brothers and also Jung,Yak

         Jong, Jung,Yak Jeong and High governor Jung,Yak Young despite

         he lay person was not able to baptize others.

     

1789 Paul YUN YU IL frankly stated his view the needs of priest for

         Korean Catholics.       

 

1791  During the King Jungjo ministration, Paul Yun,Ji chung and                       Gwon,Sang youn martyred due to the trouble of ancestral memorial

          rite f Pual's mother.Paul Yun,Ji Chung is a first Korean martyr.

 

1801  Chinese prriest James Ju,Mun-Mo martyred at Saenamteo and

          about 100 martyred  and 400 were exiled.

 

1831  Installation of the Vicariate  Apostolic of Korea on Sept 9th

          Vicar Apostolic was Bishop Barthelomy Bruguiere.

 

1836  Installation of Second Vicar Apostolic of Korea ,Bishop Laurent                 Marie Jpseph Imbert.

 

1839 100 killed and 3 French missionaries martyred at

          Saenamteo Sept 21th  

 

1843 Installation of third Vicar Apotolic ,Bishop Ferroel

 

1845 Bishop Ferroel and Fr.Marie Nicololas Antonine Daveluy, and

         Andrew Kim entered into Korea despite severe persecution 0n

         October 12.

 

1846  First Korean priest Andrew Kim,Dae Gon martyred (beheaded ) at             Saenamteo on September 16th

 

1849  Second Korean priest Thomas Choe, Yang Orb came to  December

 

1852  Fr. Ambrois Moisture came August 29th 

 

1856  Fourth Vicar Apostolic, Bishop Simeon Francis Bernisine                           Pourtheux, Fr. Charles Anto.

 

1864 Gojong throned at the age of 12 So, his father Daewongun  ruled

         as regent for about 10 years.

 

1866 During this most severe catholic persecution, 2,000 innocent                     catholics  beheaded and totally 8,000 catholics lost their lives

         from this year to the yesr of 1872.

 

1882 The establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and

         France.

 

1886 The establishment of diplomatic relations between Korean and                   the America.

 

1901 We were freed from the persecutions, however ,there was still

          misunderstanding and many other reasons, about  700 more

         catholics murdered in the region of Jejudo Island province.

1984  Holy Father John Pual II visited Korea for the Canonization of                103 Korean martyrs on May 6th in 1984 and he also                                    visited Jeoldusan Korean martyrs Shrine on May 3rd, and 3 p.m. He           knelt before 28 relics in the crypt of this Shrine.

1989  Holy Father Jhon Pull II visited Korea during the 44th International             Eucharistic Congress on October 4th thru 8th,1993.

 

2014 On August 14th, Holy Father  Francis arrived and visited Blue 

        House (Presidential area) to meet President Park and Meeting with

        Korean bishops in  Korea.

        August 15th-Celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption  Daejeon

        Worldcup Stadium,central region of Korea and Luncheon meeting

        with Korean youth and then proceed to Solmoe where first Korean

        priest Andrew Kim Dae Gon's birth place to meet with some 

        participants of Asian Youth Conference.

        August 16th -The beatification ceremony of first  lay  martyr Paul  

        Yun,Ji chung and 123 Korean catholics at Gwanghwamun square in

        Seoul. And then visited  Flower Village or Kkotdongne to console

        disabled children and poors.

        August 17th- Officaited closing mass of Asian youth conference at

        Haemieupseong Shrine ,near the Solmoe Shrine.

        August 18th-Officated His last mass in Korea at Myyeongdong

        Cathedral return to Rome in the afternoon.
