Andrew Kim,Tae Gon born on August 21,1821, in a large house Solmeo,Chungnam-do province and his family had to move to Golbaemasil where it is located at near the Mirinae shrine due to all his family were lost all their property.
Solmeo can be called “ a seminary of faith” whereas Haemi called” a grave of faith” because of a great number of catholics were martyred for the sake of their faith to God here in Haemi eupseong.
Yi, Bo Hyun,who became a catholic at the age of 24 and passed away on December 15th,1799 after 3 years after his baptism.
Yun, Eun Min baptized by Chinese priest James Chu, Mun mo and beaten to death with a huge rock at the age of 63.
Yu, Geun Myong who was very rich, however he decided to release all his servants and distributed his property to the servants and the poor and lived Christian life by observing God’s words and died peacefully.
At Haemi eupseong where there is one big tree more than 30 years old.Many of catholic were hanged and beaten to death as well as some were buried alive in the court during the persecution.
This region is central of Korea and the catholic introduced here by Yi, Jon Chang in 1784 who also received catholic faith by Kwon, Chol Shin and Kwon Il Shin brothers.
As a matter of fact, the first Korean Priest Andrew Kim, Tae Gon and second Priest Thomas Choi, Yang up also relatives of Yi, Jon Chang.
During the persecution of 1801, he was sentenced to death in Seoul and beheaded together withChung, Yak jong and Choi, Chang hyun.Kim ,Jin Hu who was a grandfather of Andrew Kim accepted catholic faith when he was 50 years old and he was imprisoned during the persecution of 1791In 1801, he also exiled and imprisoned at Haemi eupseong and he spent next 10years then passed away in 1814 at the age of 76 in the prison.
He was able to release but he just died in the price for his strong faith.Andrew Kim’s father Kim, Je jun who dispatched his son to Macau to be a priest also martyred at Saenamteo shrine in Seoul in Sept 22,1839.
